ABOUT US
For years our slogan has been “People Loving People”. While we strive to make that a true statement, we like to think that we are more than that. We want everyone who enters our doors to feel loved, accepted, and welcomed; that we are truly glad they are here! We believe church should be a place where people come to heal, not hide. In this unstable world we live in, everyone has problems, struggles, hurts, or worries of some kind. We believe God is the answer to all these issues, and we want to be a church where people find healing and freedom by God’s amazing power and grace.
WHAT IS A SAFE CHURCH?
Part of the vision of Crossover Church of God is to be a safe place where people can come to heal and not hide.  But what does safe mean?  What does a safe church environment look like?

SPIRITUAL SAFETY

An environment where each person is encouraged to grow in his/her relationship with God and be filled with His Holy Spirit; where there is freedom to find our true identity in Christ and flourish in it – all without being judged or “fixed” by others. An environment where a person is not viewed through the lens of skin color, political party, or social status, but instead seen as one for whom Jesus died.

EMOTIONAL SAFETY

An environment where each person is reasonably able to stay protected from harm inflicted by others at the church.  However, we know that “hurt people hurt people”.  So when hurt does occur, each person can confront it, heal from it, rise above it and return to a pursuit of wholeness in a safe godly environment.

RELATIONAL SAFETY

An environment where all God’s people pursue their God-given destiny in unity – with the Fruits of the Spirit on full display; an environment where people are not seen as a business contact, a sexual conquest, or any other “means to an end”.

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
On April 27th, 2014, the church voted to change the church’s name to Crossover Church of God.

The name has dual meaning:
The cross of Jesus is over us, and everything we do is under the shadow of the cross. In our present culture, it is becoming fashionable for pastors to omit references to the cross, possibly out of fear of controversy. However, we believe it is because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross that we are saved and have the hope of healing and wholeness for which we strive. Without the cross, we have no hope. Therefore, the cross will continue to be preached from our pulpit.

We have a passion to be a safe place where people can come to heal and not hide; where people can cross over from brokenness into wholeness, from the old to the new. We want to be a place where the Holy Spirit is welcome to fill us, free us, and empower us to find our true God-given identity.

This Crossover name is a statement of who we are and what we are about. It is our intent to be consistent with this vision in all that we do as a congregation.
OUR HISTORY
The original church on our site was built in the 1890’s by the Methodist congregation and was the first church in Clovis. That building burned and was replaced with our current building in 1921. In 1961 the Clovis Church of God congregation purchased the church building and the adjacent parsonage building. For twenty years the Clovis Church of God thrived and reached the local Clovis community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In the early 1980’s the church’s name was changed to Valley Community Church of God to expand the church’s influence beyond Clovis.

In 2012 God began to give our church a new vision and direction, with an emphasis on recovery, inner healing, and wholeness. God planted a passion in us to be a safe place where people can come to heal and not hide, to cross over from brokenness into the wholeness that God has for them. In 2014 the church name was changed to Crossover Church of God to reflect this new vision and passion. We are proud of our history and gladly embrace our past as we engage our future.
