About Us

OUR PASTOR

Pastor Chris & DeeDee May, have a heart for recovery and inner healing, with a desire to see the hurting set free.
Pastor Chris has a history of addiction recovery and both he & DeeDee have experienced inner healing
from past wounds and traumas in their individual lives and in their marriage.
They have seen, first-hand, God’s amazing power to redeem our past and use it for His glory – to give us a better future.
“A Place to Heal and Not Hide”

For years our slogan has been “People Loving People”. While we strive to make that a true statement,
we like to think that we are more than that. We want everyone who enters our doors to feel loved, accepted, and welcomed;
that we are truly glad they are here! We believe church should be a place where people
come to heal, not hide.In this unstable world we live in, everyone has problems, struggles, hurts,
or worries of some kind. We believe God is the answer to all these issues, and we want to be a church
where people find healing and freedom by God’s amazing power and grace.
Crossover Church of God – The Story Behind the Name
On April 27th, 2014, the church voted to change the church’s name to Crossover Church of God.

The name has dual meaning:
The cross of Jesus is over us, and everything we do is under the shadow of the cross. In our present culture, it is becoming fashionable for pastors to omit references to the cross, possibly out of fear of controversy. However, we believe it is because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross that we are saved and have the hope of healing and wholeness for which we strive. Without the cross, we have no hope. Therefore, the cross will continue to be preached from our pulpit.

We have a passion to be a safe place where people can come to heal and not hide; where people can cross over from brokenness into wholeness, from the old to the new. We want to be a place where the Holy Spirit is welcome to fill us, free us, and empower us to find our true God-given identity.

This Crossover name is a statement of who we are and what we are about. It is our intent to be consistent with this vision in all that we do as a congregation.

OUR HISTORY
Our church building was built in the 1890’s and is the oldest functioning church in Clovis. It was originally built by the local Methodist congregation. In 1961 the Clovis Church of God congregation purchased the church building and the adjacent parsonage building. For twenty years the Clovis Church of God thrived and reached the local Clovis community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In the early 1980’s the church’s name was changed to Valley Community Church of God to expand the church’s influence beyond Clovis.

In 2012 God began to give our church a new vision and direction, with an emphasis on recovery, inner healing, and wholeness. God planted a passion in us to be a safe place where people can come to heal and not hide, to cross over from brokenness into the wholeness that God has for them. In 2014 the church name was changed to Crossover Church of God to reflect this new vision and passion. We are proud of our history and gladly embrace our past as we engage our future.

Crossover Church of God is part of the Church of God denomination, with headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. For over 125 years the Church of God has been a distinctive movement focused upon communicating the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Presently, the Church of God has a world-wide membership of over 7 million with a presence in nearly 180 countries.
OUR BELIEFS
The Church of God believes the whole Bible to be completely inspired by God and is the written Word of God. The Church of God had adopted the following Declaration of Faith as its standard and official expression of its doctrine. We Believe:
  • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary.
  • That Jesus was crucified, buried and raised from the dead. That He ascended to Heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
  • Holiness to be God’s standard of living for His people.
  • In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
  • In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
  •  In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
  • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement. In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.
  • In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
  • In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
